The soft opening

The trailer and hay bales in the gardenHay bales in our gardenThe trailer was full of food and booze, the house, shiny clean and the bales of hay placed around the garden with multi coloured fabrics on top.

It was a really nice day and everyone enjoyed the food.  I was surprisingly chilled out considering I only had 2 small drinks, I don’t think I did much work though.  Wurz made sure everything went smoothly even though he’d had rather more to drink, he is a true professional lol.

“Let’s just move the trailer”

We went food shopping then Wurz prepped some while I popped here and there and tied up some loose ends ready for tomorrow, including cleaning my filthy, neglected house.

The trailer and a lovely specimen treeLate afternoon we started moving the trailer up the garden but the jockey wheel got stuck in the grass.  This created a huge saga which lasted 4 hours.  It included 2 trips to Homebase, resulted in a specimen tree I loved being cut down in the prime of it’s life, dangerously deep holes in the grass, the trailer being back where it started and the jockey wheel broke, again.  We are both so tired I can’t be bothered to go into the story of it, but with 25 people coming tomorrow we certainly could of done without it, and poor old Wurz still has cooking to do.

This photo shows the tree before it met a premature end.

We love the decals

The vinyl decals came yesterday and someone fixed them on for us this morning.  We were both nervous that something would be wrong but they are so cool and we are so relieved.  We had to let Lou know asap too because I think she felt responsible and was as nervous as us.

Prepping the cladding

I had been out to see family today and Wurz started prepping the wood while I was gone.  We’d borrowed the thicknesser and he had set it up on the floor in the garden because the wood was too long and unwieldy to be done in the garage, on the bench.  He fed loads of wood through to take it from however thick it was, down to 12mm. Floor boards

We bought about a mile of old floor boards today, to clad some of the trailer walls.  They are too thick and heavy so will need thinning out first.  We’ll borrow a thicknesser, yes, that is a real thing and I’m looking forward to getting started on this.

I recently found Valerie June on you tube and am playing her album Pushin’ Against a Stone, a lot.  Check her out when you have a minute because I am loving her.

The trailer moves into the garden

The view out the window is blocked by the trailer and looks like extreme fog

We moved the trailer into the garden today and it was far harder than I’d imagined.  After a bit of bickering and some help from Jo next door, our beauty was in.  I was very happy about this until I saw it from our living room, it has cut out the view and the light completely!  It looks so bad it is funny.

I’d already Zinssered parts of the trailer that will be getting decals stuck on, to help them stick good, but through the patio doors it just looks like extreme fog and makes us flinch and do a double take each time.
